Meet Our Staff

Victor Van De Moortel, M.P.H. Chairman and CEO, co-founded Care for You, Inc. He actively participates in the company’s business through financial management, strategic planning and overall policy. He has also provided direct service to clients. He has over 30 years experience in the health care industry in areas of health care financing, strategic planning, and information management and technology. He has been employed or consulted in both government and private sector organizations including the U. S. Department of Defense Military Health System, a hospital corporation, a hospital association, a state Medicaid program and a medical record abstracting company. He has authored several articles and presented in national forums.

Christopher Van De Moortel, President, co-founded Care for You. During the company’s first seven years and prior to his returning to higher education, he maintained operational responsibility including: P&L, marketing, sales, human resources, supervision, quality assurance and general management. In addition to an active academic schedule, he currently heads the Landscape Division of the company. In the company’s formative years, he developed forms, manuals, ad copy, and Care for You, Inc. pricing and other policy documents. During the four years prior to starting Care for You, he independently performed direct companion service.

Joan Van De Moortel, Executive Director, joined the company in March 2003. She maintains operational responsibility including: marketing, sales, human resources, supervision, quality assurance and general management. Joan conducts the in-home assessments, develops the service plans, puts in place multiple services when a plan calls for it, and supervises implementation. She develops and presents community presentations, is responsible for establishing all collateral materials, and is active in several community organizations dedicated to the well-being of seniors and the disabled. She hires, trains and supervises the Companion staff. Prior to joining Care for You, her experience encompassed care management and direct care, teaching, community organization and outreach, and work in nonprofit health organizations. She has authored several articles and presented in national forums.

Bonnie Davis-Isom, Bookkeeper and HR Director, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from UNC Greensboro. Bonnie joined Care for You in 2001. She has worked extensively in bookkeeping and customer service. She has been a caregiver much of her life – personally and professionally – working with elders through the American Red Cross, with adults in homeless shelters, with children through Big Brothers/Big Sisters as a Big Sister, and with animals in shelters. In addition to her bookkeeping and HR responsibilities, Bonnie staffs the Transportation Committee of the Grass Roots Organization for the Wellbeing of Seniors (GROWS).

Karen Swain, Professional Organizer, is project director for moving, downsizing and hoarding, handling projects as small as organizing a home office, and as large as leading the Care for You team in organizing, major cleaning, and repairing a whole house. She is a member of the National Association of Professional Organizers, local and national chapters. She apprenticed with Barbara Jolly, former president of NAPO, and with Barbara Hemphill, author of “Taming the Paper Tiger” series. She has been active in her profession for five years but adds, “I’ve been doing this all my life.”

Mary Trotter, Care Manager, plays a key role in coordinating services for Care for You clients whose needs go beyond the one-on-one Companion services to involve several professionals or agencies. Since graduating from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Welfare, she has developed, implemented and evaluated individualized care plans for teens and adults to foster intellectual, social and emotional growth. She supervised and taught Activities of Daily Living in adult and youth group homes which led to essential skills for self-reliance and independence. As a one-on-one counselor and therapist she focused on working with individuals with cognitive disorders, depression, autism, and such physical disabilities as cerebral palsy, brain injury and severe epilepsy. As a consultant in corporate America, she has supervised and managed materials design, production and distribution for international training and risk management trends.
